Introduction of the Toyota Production System (TPS) into a pressing plant.
We got the following inquiry into our home page from a president of a pressing factory.
We are considering to introduce a regularly guidance by the consultant of production for a drastic improvement in our factory.
We would like to ask the consultant to diagnose our factory-shop and consider to link improvement through-out company for the education and development of our next generation.
We went the main office of the pressing company at once, and confirmed the president, the junior managing director and factory manager through TV their determination and made arrangement for our response.
Before the meeting, the president’s determination was already decided. As they requested the diagnosis of their factory-shop at once, we made the arrangement at their main office on next coming Monday and scheduled to do the diagnosis of their factory-shop on next coming Friday.(It was quite hard to secure a schedule of Mr.Ikemoto, consultant at once.
The principle of Mr.Ikemoto of truly Toyota Motor Corp. was the customer first.
His plan was solution of the problem which was closest the customer.
(1)Was there any problem form the point of customer? What did the customer expect? Price(Cost)? The date of delivery? Quality?
(2)Though you got a order of special rush product from the important customer, Did you have a technology to produce it?
(3)As the arrangement about the product with customer was not good enough, did you have the problem about the quality and price later?
(4)It was necessary to be given vent any dissatisfaction and problem which salesman in the front line had.
Mr.Ikemoto commented “The request by customer was always change. There was an intension of this activity in the taking the direction in advance” and would break this intension through for the activity of each section and proceeded with consultant.
Plan of production, change of arrangement,a die production cost L/T,improvement of productivity, and reduction of inventory would be the activity-theme in each section and if they proceed their activity at shop mainly, its activity would link education and development of personnel.
As Mr.Ikemoto was the profesional of the pressing work, he would change the fixed ideas of this factory.
