Overview of TPS(Toyota Production System) – Just-in-Time and “Jidoka(Automation with a Human Touch)”
To all people related to manufacturing genba(field)
When I first met with the”Toyota Procution System”, I thought it was mainly concerned with determining the most efficient direction in technological means and method for manufacturing.. This was a complete misunderstanding as I became painfully aware that the manufacturing genba(fields) I had managed to improve, easily returned to it’s original condition if it is not being continually monitored. Improvement activities are not achieved by teaching and informing acquired technique and technology, but by attaining understanding of the goal where we are trying to reach.
In other words, it is not done by passing the one-sidedly technologies, but the most important thing is to create conditions that enable the person in charge of the task to be given a room to think and to access their potential ability. Keeping in mind that the difficulties of the task or the areas requiring attention, are well known by the person in charge of the actual work, true discussion becomes possible, then exchanging opinion can lead to the formation of mutual wisdom and ideal result.
The basics of Toyota Production System is to “utilize human” and have eyes to find muda(waste), and to improve on the ability to eliminate such muda(waste) once found.
Just-in-Time and jidoka(automation with a human touch), are not methods, but should be understood as a philosophies designed to raise people, and is necessary to therefore have these philosophies thoroughly accepted.
Potential problems would be visualized by having every member hold problem consciousness,”Why?”, would lead solving each potential problem, then proceed improvement activities that earns profit.
The expert of manufacturing field who mastered Toyota Production System, and introduced the technology world wide to various industries, would hold a seminar to explain to you with a detailed support from the basics.
Participation of the top managers, or operators, or part-time employees, or anyone who are in touch with genba(field), are welcome to this seminar.
